Using the Index Manager
The Index Manager controls what visitors see when they open a folder that has no index file (such as index.html). Without this control, some folders could display a full directory listing of their contents - a minor security and privacy risk.
To use it in the DirhamHost panel:
- Open Indexes or Index Manager.
- Browse to the folder you want to configure.
- Choose an option:
- No Indexing - visitors see a 403 Forbidden instead of a file list. Best for folders like
/imagesor/uploads. - Default - uses the server default.
- Standard / Fancy Indexing - shows a browsable list of files (only use where you intend a public file index).
For most business websites, set sensitive folders to No Indexing so people cannot browse your uploaded files. Alternatively, place an empty index.html in a folder to achieve the same effect. This setting writes an Options directive into .htaccess, so it can also be managed there by advanced users. If you would like us to lock down directory browsing across your whole site, just ask at support@dirhamaday.ae.
