Setting up redirects

Redirects send visitors (and search engines) from an old address to a new one - essential when you rename a page, move to a new domain, or switch to HTTPS. The DirhamHost panel has a Redirects tool.

1. Open Redirects.
2. Choose the type: Permanent (301) for a lasting move, or Temporary (302) for a short-term change.
3. Pick the domain, enter the old path, and type the destination URL.
4. Save.

Use 301 (Permanent) for almost all cases - it passes SEO value to the new page and tells Google to update its index. Use 302 only for genuinely temporary situations.

Common examples:

• Redirect /old-offer to /summer-sale.
• Redirect a retired domain to your main site.
• Force www to non-www (or vice versa) for consistency.

Advanced patterns - such as redirecting an entire folder or using wildcards - can be written directly into .htaccess with RewriteRule. Back up .htaccess before editing.
