Choosing your PHP version
Your DirhamHost panel includes a PHP Version Selector so you can pick the PHP release your website runs on. Keeping PHP current improves speed and security, but some older applications need an older version.
To change it:
- Open the DirhamHost panel and go to Select PHP Version (or PHP Selector).
- Choose the version from the dropdown - for most modern sites, PHP 8.1 or newer is ideal.
- Save. The change applies to your account (or the selected domain).
Advice:
- WordPress, WooCommerce and Laravel run best on PHP 8.1+. Check your theme and plugins are compatible first.
- Older custom scripts may need PHP 7.4. If a site breaks after upgrading, switch back and test.
- Always take a backup before changing versions.
A blank white page or errors after switching usually means a plugin or code is not compatible with the new version - revert and update the code. Running an unsupported, end-of-life PHP version is a security risk, so aim to keep sites on a maintained release. The same screen lets you enable PHP extensions and adjust settings.
