WordPress and resource limits

WordPress is the most popular platform we host, and with a little care it runs beautifully within your DirhamGuard limits. Because WordPress builds each page with PHP and can run many plugins, it is also the most common source of high resource usage - so it pays to keep it lean.

The single biggest win is caching. A good caching plugin (such as one that serves ready-made static pages) means most visitors get a pre-built page without your server doing the work each time. This alone can cut CPU and memory usage dramatically.

Other steps that keep WordPress within limits:

• Trim your plugins - deactivate and delete any you do not use. Each active plugin adds load to every page.
• Choose a lightweight theme - some "do-everything" themes are heavy; a lean one loads faster and uses less.
• Optimise images - large uncompressed images use memory and bandwidth. Resize and compress them.
• Keep everything updated - updates often bring performance improvements and security fixes.
• Tame WP-Cron - on busy sites, switch WordPress's scheduler to a proper server cron job.
• Add anti-spam and bot protection - stop bots wasting your resources on login and comment pages.
