What happens to my DNS during a migration?

DNS - the system that points your domain name to your hosting - is often the part of a move people worry about most. The good news is that with Dirham A Day's migration approach, you often do not need to change your DNS yourself until everything is ready, and we guide you through it if you do.

Here is what typically happens:

• During the move, thanks to our reverse-proxy cutover, your site stays live on its existing address without an immediate DNS change. We can manage the transition behind the scenes, so your visitors keep seeing a working site.
• At the final switch, when you have tested and are happy, we complete the cutover. If a DNS update is needed at this stage, we tell you exactly what to change - or, where possible, handle the routing for you.
• After the switch, any DNS change takes a little time to spread across the internet (this is called propagation). Because your site is working on both the old and new setup during this window, visitors see no interruption.

A few reassurances:

• We do not make surprise DNS changes - anything that affects your live domain is planned with you.
• We keep your site available throughout, so propagation does not mean downtime.
• If your domain is managed somewhere specific, tell us and we will tailor the plan.
