What causes high resource usage?

If your usage graphs are running hot, the cause is almost always one of a handful of usual suspects. Here is what to check.

• Too many plugins or a heavy theme - every active plugin adds work to each page load. A WordPress site with dozens of plugins uses far more CPU and memory than a lean one.
• No caching - without a caching layer, every single visit rebuilds the page from scratch, multiplying the work your server does.
• Bot and crawler traffic - search engines, scrapers and bad bots can hammer your site with requests, sometimes more than real visitors do.
• Genuine traffic growth - a successful campaign or viral post is a great problem to have, but it uses real resources.
• Heavy or frequent cron jobs - scheduled tasks set to run too often, or all at once, can spike usage.
• An online shop - WooCommerce carts, checkouts and account pages cannot be fully cached and need real processing.
• A misbehaving plugin or script - a bug or a runaway loop can consume resources continuously.

The way to find your culprit is to open the resource-usage graphs in the DirhamHost panel and note when the spikes happen, then match that to what your site is doing at those times.
