Email Deliverability

Using a subdomain for sending mail

Some businesses send their bulk or automated mail from a subdomain - for example news.yourdomain.ae or mail.yourdomain.ae - rather than the root domain. This is a deliberate deliverability strategy.

Why use a sending subdomain:

How to set it up:

  1. Choose a subdomain and configure it with your sending platform or relay.
  2. Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for that subdomain - authentication is per-domain, so the subdomain needs its own records.
  3. Warm up the subdomain gradually, as it starts with no reputation.

Note that a subdomain builds its own reputation from scratch, so it needs warming up. DMARC on your root domain can be set to also cover subdomains, but you will still add specific SPF/DKIM for the sending subdomain to pass alignment. This approach is most valuable for organisations sending significant marketing volume. If you are planning a marketing subdomain, we can help configure the DNS correctly - WhatsApp +971 58 553 6767.
