Is my site slow because of resource limits?
A slow site is frustrating, and resource limits are one possible cause - but far from the only one. Here is how to tell whether DirhamGuard is involved.
Check your usage graphs first. In the DirhamHost panel, open the resource-usage section and look at the times your site felt slow. If your CPU, memory or entry-process lines were pinned at the ceiling during those periods, limits are likely a factor. If your usage was low, the slowness is coming from somewhere else.
Causes that are about limits:
- Sustained high usage from real traffic growth - time to optimise or upgrade.
- A heavy plugin, uncached shop or bot attack pushing you to your ceiling.
Causes that are not about limits:
- Large, unoptimised images making pages heavy to download.
- No caching, so every page is rebuilt from scratch.
- A slow external service your site calls (a payment gateway, an API, a remote font).
- The visitor's own internet connection or distance from the server.
- A DNS or network issue unrelated to your account.
The good news is that many of the fixes - caching, image optimisation, fewer plugins - help whether or not limits are the cause, and they lower your resource usage as a bonus.
