Downloading a backup
As well as restoring directly from DirhamVault, you may sometimes want to download a copy of a backup to keep on your own computer or external storage - for example before a major change, for your own records, or to hand to a developer.
To download a backup:
- Log in to the DirhamHost panel.
- Open the DirhamVault backup section.
- Choose the restore point you want a copy of.
- Select the option to download - you can typically take a full-account archive or a specific component such as a database.
- Save the file to a safe place on your own device.
A few sensible practices when keeping your own copies:
- Store them securely. A downloaded backup contains your full site data - keep it somewhere private and, ideally, encrypted or password-protected.
- Do not rely on them alone. Your own downloads are a nice extra, but DirhamVault's automatic off-site backups are your main safety net - they keep running whether or not you remember to download anything.
- Delete old local copies you no longer need, so sensitive data is not left lying around.
Downloading a backup is also a handy way to move your site elsewhere or to give a developer a full snapshot to work from locally.
