Database-only backups

Sometimes you do not need a copy of your whole site - you just need your database, which holds your content and data such as posts, products, orders and settings. DirhamVault lets you work with the database on its own, both for backups and restores.

A database-only backup is useful when:

• You are about to make a change that mainly affects data - a bulk edit, an import, or a plugin that alters your database.
• You want a quick, lightweight snapshot of your content before experimenting.
• A developer needs a copy of your data to work with, without all your files.

To take or restore a database on its own:

1. Log in to the DirhamHost panel and open DirhamVault.
2. For a fresh copy, take an on-demand backup and choose the database component.
3. To restore, choose database restore, pick a restore point, select the database and confirm.

Restoring only the database is a precise tool: it brings back your content to an earlier state without changing your themes, plugins or uploaded files. That is exactly what you want if your content was damaged but your files are fine - for example after a bad import or a plugin that mangled your data.

Do bear in mind that restoring a database replaces its current contents, so anything added after the restore point (such as newer orders) will not be present - choose your point carefully on a busy site.
