DNS records explained

DNS records are the individual instructions that tell the internet how your domain works. Here are the ones you will meet most often:

• A record — points your domain to a server IP address (for your website).
• CNAME — points one name to another name (often for subdomains like www).
• MX — directs email to your mail server.
• TXT — holds text used for verification, SPF, DKIM and more.
• NS — lists the nameservers for the domain.
• CAA — controls which authorities can issue SSL certificates.
