The VPS firewall
A firewall controls which network traffic can reach your VPS, allowing the connections you need and blocking the rest. It is one of the most important parts of keeping your server secure.
On a VPS you manage the firewall yourself (or with our help on a managed plan). Good practice is to:
- Allow only the ports you actually use, such as web (80/443) and SSH (22)
- Restrict SSH access where possible
- Close everything you do not need
Common tools include the built-in Linux firewall (such as UFW or firewalld) and control-panel firewalls if you have installed one. Configuring the firewall carefully greatly reduces the risk of unwanted access.
Take care not to lock yourself out; always keep SSH access open for your own connection. If you would like help setting up a sensible firewall, or you are on a managed VPS, contact our UAE team on WhatsApp at +971 58 553 6767. Manage your VPS at my.dirhamaday.ae.
