How do I create strong passwords for my hosting?

Weak, reused passwords are the single most common way sites get hacked. A few good habits dramatically reduce your risk.

What makes a strong password:

• At least 12 to 16 characters.
• A mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.
• Not a dictionary word, your business name, or anything guessable.
• Unique to each account; never reuse the same password across your control panel, email, WordPress and bank.

The easiest way to manage this is a password manager (such as Bitwarden or 1Password). It generates long random passwords and remembers them, so you only memorise one master password.

Use the password generator built into the DirhamHost control panel when creating email accounts, FTP users or database users; it produces strong values automatically.

Also:

• Change any password you suspect has been exposed.
• Never send passwords by plain email or chat.
• Add two-factor authentication on top of strong passwords for your most important accounts.
