Reverse DNS (rDNS) on a VPS
Reverse DNS (rDNS) maps your server's IP address back to a hostname, the opposite of normal DNS which maps a name to an IP. It matters most if you send email from your VPS, because mail servers check rDNS to help decide whether messages are legitimate.
Setting a matching rDNS (PTR) record for your server helps your emails reach the inbox rather than the spam folder, and looks more professional overall.
To set it up, you generally:
- Decide the hostname you want your IP to resolve to, for example mail.yourdomain.com.
- Create a matching forward DNS record for that hostname pointing to your VPS IP.
- Ask us to set the rDNS (PTR) record for your IP.
Because rDNS for your IP is configured at our end, contact our UAE team on WhatsApp at +971 58 553 6767 or email support@dirhamaday.ae with the hostname you would like, and we will set it for you. You can manage your VPS at my.dirhamaday.ae.
