What is leech protection and how do I use it?

Leech protection guards password-protected areas of your site against a shared or leaked login being abused by many people at once. If a single username and password is being passed around (a "leech"), this feature spots the unusual number of logins and steps in.

It works by counting how many times a protected account logs in within a short window. If that exceeds the limit you set, the account can be automatically suspended or redirected, and you can be notified.

To configure it:

  1. Log in to the DirhamHost control panel from my.dirhamaday.ae.
  2. Open the Leech Protection tool.
  3. Select the protected directory you want to guard.
  4. Set the maximum number of logins allowed in a two-hour period, choose whether to disable the compromised account, and optionally add an email alert and a redirect URL.

This is most useful for membership areas, private client portals, or paid content folders where a leaked password could otherwise be shared widely.

Combine it with strong, unique passwords and Directory Privacy for the best protection. If you are running a membership site and want advice on locking it down, our team can help on WhatsApp +971 58 553 6767 or support@dirhamaday.ae.
