Why is keeping my software updated so important?
Out-of-date software is the leading cause of hacked websites. When a security flaw is found in WordPress, a plugin, a theme or any application, the maker releases an update to fix it, and attackers immediately start scanning for sites that have not applied it.
What to keep updated:
- WordPress core (or whatever CMS you use).
- Plugins and themes, including ones you have deactivated but not removed.
- Your PHP version; running a current, supported PHP is faster and more secure.
How to stay on top of it:
- Enable automatic updates for minor releases and trusted plugins.
- Check for updates at least weekly and apply them promptly.
- Take a backup first (DirhamVault) so you can roll back if an update conflicts.
- Remove software you no longer use; unused plugins are still a way in.
You can update your PHP version in the MultiPHP Manager in the DirhamHost panel at my.dirhamaday.ae. Our server-level ModSecurity and firewalls add protection, but they are not a substitute for patching your own applications. If an update ever breaks your site, contact our 24/7 team on WhatsApp +971 58 553 6767 or support@dirhamaday.ae and we can help restore and troubleshoot.
