How do I password-protect a folder?
Directory Privacy lets you put a username-and-password prompt in front of a folder on your site, so only people with the credentials can view its contents. It is ideal for a staging area, an admin folder, or private downloads.
To set it up:
- Log in to the DirhamHost control panel from my.dirhamaday.ae.
- Open Directory Privacy (sometimes listed under Files or Security).
- Browse to the folder you want to protect and select it.
- Tick Password protect this directory, give it a name, and save.
- Create a user with a strong password who is allowed to access it.
Now anyone visiting that folder's URL is prompted for the username and password before they see anything.
This is enforced at the server level via .htaccess and HTTP authentication, so it works regardless of the application inside the folder. It is a quick way to lock down an area without building a login system.
A couple of tips: protect the correct folder (not your whole public site by accident), and use a strong password. To remove protection later, return to the same tool and disable it. Need help choosing what to protect? Contact WhatsApp +971 58 553 6767 or support@dirhamaday.ae.
